Kitale
Kitale, formerly known as Quitale, is the capital of the district Trans-Nzoia located in the province Rift Valley situated between Mount Elgon and the Cherangani Hills at an elevation of around 1,900 metres (6,200 ft).
Depending on the source Kitale has a population between 100.000 and 230.000.
In the 19th century Kitale was a commercial trading center for the caravan trade. That was the spot white settlers chose to found the town that is now Kitale in 1908. When the branch line of the Uganda-Railway from Eldoret to Kitale was constructed in 1926 it helped further the development of the town.
The orphanage is located about 20km outside the city in the city district called Saiwa. Saiwa is very small and has only three shops. Directly behind the house is the nationalpark of Kitale.
